Tom Quibell is a British documentary photographer based in Newcastle upon Tyne. His work is rooted in the people and places of the North East, telling stories of community, identity, and belonging through portraiture and long-form documentary projects.

Originally from Wallsend, Tom studied Photography at Sheffield Hallam University before completing a Master’s degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the University of the Arts London. His practice has since centred on the North East, with projects such as Upon Tyne — a portrait of life along the River Tyne, exhibited at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art’s Open Submission in 2024 — and All Rise, a solo exhibition in North Shields exploring community organising and collective action through the parish of St Cuthbert’s Church and Tyne & Wear Citizens.

His current project, All Rise, focuses on individuals who play vital roles in their communities, beginning with a series of portraits of a parish priest in North Shields dedicated to grassroots social change.

Tom’s approach is shaped by a background in both creative and community contexts, drawing on his experience in collaborative projects and his interest in the everyday stories that define a place. He is committed to producing work that not only documents but also contributes to conversations within the communities he photographs.
